  1. Thank you Andrews McMeel Publishing for ARC in exchange for an honest review. After being underwhelmed with Pillow Thoughts, I think Courtney Peppernell s writing improved in this book especially on its arrangement It flows smoothly and some of them are heartfelt and profound Honestly, I m still not a fan of the ones in paragraph form Overall, this one is good.

  2. 3.25 stars I enjoyed her other collection Pillow Thoughts I think this is still a good collection and would recommend it to poetry lovers I really love the way the sections were divided in this and how she brought nature into the story as well This is also an LGBTQIAP collection as the relationship is about two girls It is own voices if your wondering about the representation It was harder for me to connect with this collection because it was a female female relationship I could not personally [...]

  3. I give The Road Between four stars because I absolutely loved and was entirely captivated by about 70% of the poems within its pages. The other 30% was in my opinion a little too much forced rhyme and sounded a bit too much like what I see on every trying to be relatable and poetic tumblr post BUT, that s only 30% The majority that I really loved though, I TRULY adored Peppernell really reached deep and brought some heavy feelings to a written word. Some were so simply sweet and others were so com [...]

  4. There are many beautiful moments in this book, but as a whole it falls flat I think like anything, some will speak to you at different points in your life than others Some just felt elementary, I think is the main issue I had I received an arc of this in exchange for an honest review.

  5. Actual rating 3.5 starsThe Road Between is a poetry collection by Courtney Peppernell, an author I feel is slowly becoming a new favourite of mine She has, once again, delivered a well thought out collection, where her honesty, talent, and unique way of storytelling shine once .The Road Between was another pleasant collection of poems Her poems are easy to read, relatable, and fun I like the themes and the way she uses the English language had it been another author, someone less talented or som [...]

  6. I really enjoyed this book Courtney Peppernell s voice is like a lighthouse guiding hurting people home She does not candy coat life s challenges, particularly as they pertain to being a lesbian in a world that can sometimes be both unsupportive and cruel While acknowledging that the judgement and harshness is there, she does not dwell on negativity, but instead on love and possibility This book is a love letter to young women who are searching for acceptance and looking for their place in the w [...]

  8. This book is full of inspirational and plain thought provoking passages Some are simply a few lines and others are half a page but I found then all fantastic Lovely reading.

  9. Find bookish fun at Ryann the Reader I received an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. When I read the synopsis for Courtney Peppernell s The Road Between, I couldn t wait to start reading it A collection broken into eight parts the cave, the closet, the sky, the sea, the roads, the mountains, the fields, the home , I expected a book of self discovery and love through small moments in life I expected something subtle and nuanced, as self discovery so often [...]

  10. I received this book as an ARC on NetGalley I requested this book in an effort to find poetry that I enjoy There were parts that I liked and parts that really didn t sit well with me I enjoyed how the other played with form Some of the poems were written in lines, some in prose style, some rhymed and others didn t The rhymes that were there felt natural and unforced The poems had a natural rhythm no matter the style in which they were written The author experimented with imagery and figurative [...]

  11. I got an ARC in return for an honest review on NetGalley.I grabbed this book because I had loved the cover of the author s other book on NetGalley, Pillow Thoughts This book didn t have a cover that would have grabbed me Seems too much like a classic adventure story which isn t really my speed I was just going book happy. The book itself is ok There was nothing remarkable about it to me It felt like a bit of a let down compared to the other book The poems didn t hit as hard for me They were a bit [...]

  12. Having read another poem collection by Courtney Peppernell, I went in knowing the bare bones of what I should expect I received a copy of this book from the netgalley in exchange for an honest review Peppernell writes with simplistic prose that is easy to read and easy to understand However, with this simplicity can also come a lack of emotional depth which you might call counterproductive Poetry is generally meant to make us feel something Similar to her previous collection, there were both str [...]

  13. I really enjoyed this book of poetry When I started I was writing down passages that I liked in my journal, but it became to much, I loved too many of the poems I moved from writing them down to marking the pages with a star and now my book looks like a galaxy I also enjoyed the artwork immensely, the cover art is what drew me on that table top full of books at the store You could read this book at any stage of your life and find inspiration, I know that I did I m at a loss to say anything else [...]

  14. I can t pretend that I m an expert on poetry whatsoever, and I don t have a lot of experience with poetry books though I d love to read I just found this to be a bit underwhelming There were a few gems sprinkled throughout, and maybe one or two that I thought about copying down, but overall I flipped through the pages quickly without feeling the need to pause and think or say wow I enjoyed the section titles and the little pictures, but I don t think I d go out of my way to recommend this.

  15. The Road Betweenby Courtney PeppernellAndrews McMeel PublishingPoetryPub Date 29 Aug 2017 I am reviewing a copy of The Road Between through Andrews Mcmeel Publishing and through Netgalley Poetry is probably the most genre to review because it is one of the most personal forms of writing This collection of poetry speaks a lot of sorrow and loss, a lot of the poems are sad, but the collection does not entirely lack hope.I give The Road Between four out of five stars.Happy Reading

  16. While better than Pillow Thoughts, I was still not massively impressed with this work The poems in The Road Between cover some similar emotional territory as Pillow Thoughts, but this time it s divided between places The Sky, The Home, etc and contains introspective pieces Some were really impactful, others fell flat I am probably just not the right type of person for Peppernell s work, but I think it would grow on me over time.I received a free copy via NetGalley in exchange for an honest revi [...]

  17. I found this book at my local bookstore and was immediately drawn to it Is it totally profound and lyrical No, but it feels personal I felt like the author and I were having a conversation, and that made the reading experience super special Some of the poems I read weren t as good or were just a sentence , but there were a lot I really related to I kept finding myself wanting to sit down and write some of my own poems Overall, a good quick read

  18. 3.5 StarsThe poetry felt familiar not in a way that I related to the stories and emotions but in the that I ve read poems before that sounded similar I know some people share the same experiences but I think writers can make it unique On a better note, a few pieces inspired some new poems I wrote.

  19. This is the first piece of writing by Courtney Peppernell that i ve read Although the themes she spoke of were hauntingly beautiful, the prose itself did not grab me I needed something to lift me up and blow me away but i couldn t find that in her words However, incredibly important messages that needs to be discussed .

  20. A collection of poetry and prose that is mostly about love, relationships with others, relationship with oneself It is in my opinion, heartfelt storytelling, things that the author feels strongly about but it will probably be not to everyone s liking Still it is a quick and easy read and enjoyable for those who like their poetry that way ARC provided thru NetGalley

  21. The poetry in this book read a lot like a tweet or a tumblr post There were a few gems in the book, but I found myself wanting it to end The poems were most often cliche you re doing great, I m proud of you types and that s just not really something I am into.

  22. I found this collection to have some extremely beautiful pieces but also a few that were very flat However, I liked that there would different themes to relate to.

  23. This was the first book I read of Courtney s, and it was simply amazing Also extra stars for the beautiful images I can t wait to pick up pillow thoughts.
