This book is good to have on hand, as it discusses gender stereotypes, unemployment, and father son relationships, but it isn t the most captivating story and I can see children getting bored of it, or not really understanding it s subject matter However, it could be useful for children going through certain family issues or difficult times.

This is an emotive and moving story which paints the picture of a young boy coming to grips with the role his unemployed father has in his life The drawings are simple and really help to further the point Quinlan is making with the text I think this book is extremely important in terms of having a positive male role model and recognising that fathers shouldn t always be relegated to a lesser role within a story This book also looks at how to be proud of your family, even if it isn t the perfect [...]

So I like this book for the obvious reason it is about a dad and not a mum This book explores the emotions and love between a dad and his son which is great for children to access This book also delves into real life problems such as redundancy and having to move due to lack of money Patrica touches on these issues in a sensitive way and I think this would be a fantastic book for PSHE to explore them in a safe environment The drawings are also very life like, rather than cartoon, therefore makin [...]
